North is always up, like Google Maps.

Pros

  • Light reaches the main living area from two directions.
  • 6.8 m² of built in storage outside the bedrooms, more than three in four plans on Dudils.
  • The walk in pantry is about 1 m from the garage door, so the shopping goes straight in.
  • Windows on two sides of the living area let a breeze through.

Orientation notes

Parkview 26 by cavalierhomes.com.au is a single storey house drawn so its main living areas face north for free winter warmth and natural summer cooling. On this page the floor plan is rotated so north is up, the same way Google Maps shows a site.

It suits a block with the backyard to the north, where the street and driveway sit to the south.

At 16.35 metres wide by 20.77 metres deep (about 244.82 square metres of floor area), the house needs a build width of roughly 18 metres once you allow for side setbacks.

Dudils only lists this plan because an architect reviewed it and confirmed the living areas can face north on a real Australian block. Use the search on this page to check it against your own block width, depth and driveway side before you talk to the builder.
