Parramatta flood map check
City of Parramatta Council publishes its own flood mapping, and the Site Checker reads it for any Parramatta address. It maps flood risk areas as high, medium and low, the layer behind the council's own Flood Warning Areas web app.
Type an address below to see what each map says about the block, with its source and date.

Is my Parramatta property flood affected?
A Parramatta property is flood affected when any part of it sits in one of the City of Parramatta's high, medium or low flood risk areas. The Site Checker above reads the council's layers, the NSW Planning Portal map and the NSW SES extents, and shows each answer separately. The official answer is still City of Parramatta Council's, and the questions below explain how to get it.
Where is the City of Parramatta Council flood map?
The City of Parramatta points residents to its Know your flood risk page, and its flood studies page holds the 2024 Parramatta River Flood Study, the Haslams Creek Flood Study and the A'Becketts Creek Flood Study, with their maps to download.
Which City of Parramatta Council flood layers does the Site Checker read?
The council publishes its flood layers across eight services, and the checker reads the adopted flood risk areas, updated in 2025, whose risk class is high, medium or low. A lot touching more than one class reports the worse one.
The checker asks one layer: Flood risk areas, high, medium and low. Every one answered a test query on 17 September 2026. Layers made for the exhibition of the draft Parramatta River Flood Study 2023 are left out, because the council says that data was superseded before adoption, and the LEP floodplain risk management map comes through the Planning Portal instead.
What do the flood risk areas mean in Parramatta?
They grade how much risk flooding carries on the land, high, medium or low, and the grade decides which of the council's flood controls apply to a development. The council's flooding page notes that the Parramatta CBD is the most flash flood affected major CBD in NSW, so a short, heavy storm matters there as much as a river flood.
How do I get a flood certificate from City of Parramatta Council?
Submit a Flood Enquiry Application. The City of Parramatta says detailed flood information, as required for planning and development applications, comes through that application, lodged online through ePathway. There are residential, duplex and commercial versions on its flooding applications page.
Why does the City of Parramatta Council map differ from the state map?
They are drawn by different bodies for different jobs. The NSW SES Flood Database compiles flood extents from studies across the state, while City of Parramatta Council's map is the one its planning controls are written against, and a flood planning area usually sits above the 1% AEP extent because it adds freeboard. A withdrawn LEP flood map on the Planning Portal shows as a former map with its date, never as a current control. The checker never merges the sources into one verdict, and where they disagree, City of Parramatta Council settles it.
What else do people ask?
Does the Parramatta flood map show how deep the water would get?
No. An extent says whether land is inside a modelled flood, not how deep or fast the water is. Flood levels in metres AHD (height above average sea level) come from City of Parramatta Council, through a Flood Enquiry Application.
If my Parramatta block is outside the mapped area, can it still flood?
Yes. Parramatta's risk areas come from the council's studies of the Parramatta River and its creeks, including Haslams Creek and A'Becketts Creek, and cover the land those studies modelled. Land outside every map can still flood from overland flow no study has modelled, and a council can apply flood controls to land its published map does not show.
Is this the same as a section 10.7 planning certificate?
No. City of Parramatta Council's section 10.7 planning certificate is the formal statement of the controls on a lot, including whether flood related development controls apply. Order one through City of Parramatta planning certificates.
